Want to know what’s going to be hot on the streets of Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Brissie this spring? Makeup fashion gets nods from the latest looks heading down the runaway at the recent New York Fashion Week. Sure, we may not live in the northern hemisphere, but that don’t mean that we can’t pick out the best looks from the shows and give them our very own Aussie spin.
Go big on blush
Leave the tan contour at home, this spring it’s all about colour on the cheeks. We’re loving big sweeps of blush in popping colours like reds, bright pinks, and hot peaches. It’s a little bit disco, it’s a little bit 80s, and it’s a lot of fun. Keep the rest of your makeup minimal and make your cheeks the highlight this time. A slick of colour on the lips will set off the look.
The more glitter the better
We’re still loving the nod to rave culture with glitter, glitter everywhere still being a key season takeaway. Whether it’s glitter eyeshadow, glitter lips, or a smattering of glitter over the décolletage, sparkle and shine bright with whichever type of glitter you’d like – from fine dust through to chunky holographic pieces.
Falsies, falsies, falsies
Big lashes are still in, so make sure to stock up on more pairs of falsies to get you through spring. A big, full, natural look is preferred, rather than arty styled lashes. For those who aren’t very good at applying lashes, or who can’t be bothered doing them on a daily basis, you can opt to get eyelash extensions that last a few weeks instead.
Finally, we don’t have to worry about getting the line of that winged liner just right! For the spring we’re seeing the emergence of smudged eyeliner – an eye lined with kohl and then a gloss slicked over the top, smudged along the way. It’s a little bit grungy, a little bit cool, and a whole lot less work.
Matte red lipstick with a bare face
Perfect for the beauties who like to get out the door more quickly in the morning or evening, this is one look that’s really easy for everyone – provided you find the right shade of red for your skin tone first. Go with a bare face, maybe some BB cream and light mascara, then opt for super bold matte red lipstick.
Metallic eye makeup
Like our affection for glitter, metallics are also still ruling the roost this spring. Metallic eyeshadows in oranges, reds, silvers, golds – well, pretty much any metallic you can think of – are going to do the trick here. Sweep over the entire lid and pull in the shadow to the inner corner too. This is a bold look so make sure that you’re really working it.
Them crazy lips
If you’ve got a special event then you’ll be happy to know that you can get really creative this spring and still be on trend. Go crazy with lip colour in bright acids like orange and pink to really makeup a statement. You’ll want to go matte for this look and not let the rest of your makeup detract from your lippy.
